Mechs and other role-playing game related stuff

swamp_viper_rpg_mech

I’ve decided to bring Dragonbat back from the dead as a place for me to let my hair down and let off steam. Starbright, my main illustration (and role-playing games) site, is great looking now and hundreds of people are visiting to look at my role-playing game illustrations and read my science fiction related jabbering, but I have to pay a lot of attention to SEO and keeping the tone right and the content consistent.

Here at Dragonbat I have decided not to worry so much about any of that. I might write 250 words as SEO websites suggest, or I might just post some art and leave it at that, I haven’t decided yet; but one thing I definitely won’t be doing is repeating the same keyword over and over again so that the Google ad robot knows what ads to serve. Then again maybe I will, it’s a hard habit to break. Anyway today’s picture is a mech design I did for Starbright, anyone else remember Battletech as fondly as I do?

Skrimshaw page1

I have decided to start a comic book. It'll be about a colony of robots that have lost contact with human space and who inhabit a planet where humans are a dim memory. What happened to the humans. That's the idea anyway.

It is available on a portfolio website to buy as well, who knows, perhaps it will be a project that I will be able to keep up with. I hope so.

Ironing Man

I just saw the trailor for Iron Man the movie last night and was moved to respond in my own artistic fashion. And of course it is available to buy as a tshirt design at redbubble, just click the button.

I have always been a big fan of Iron Man, and this may not be a great reason but, because of the cool way he holds his hand out in a "talk to the hand" gesture and his palm blaster shoots a cool beam out. I am particularly proud of this illustration because I have included a scan of a bit of fabric as the cover for the ironing board, I think it works well and looks nice, I have spared a couple of thoughts to the copyright situation but I'm fairly sure that an image like this which is sending something up is OK. I'm still in Australia after 5 months on holiday but I'm going to be back in the UK soon. It'll be good to see the old place again I guess.

A Robot Bad Guy

This is a sketch for a robot bad guy to be used in my
Tarazet story,if I ever manage to devote the time to
it to get it off the ground. In the mean time it is a rich
source of inspiration for illustrations.

This robot is influenced by the classic designs in the
UK comic 2000ad including deadlock. I love the
idea of inanimate machines being able to interact
with spirits and control magic, just like a human
caharacter in a story, and so although Hamerstien
was my favourite character in ABC Warriors,
Deadlock has also
left a lasting impression.

Tarazet

Today I started writing a science fiction story called Tarazet, mostly as an excuse to create sf art. Like the space ship above. Here are the notes I created today. Morvanwin see previous post will probably be the main character.

A traveller reaches for a metal flower. They grow and die all along the route. He is a scientist

The star paths were built by an unknown civilisation. There are many legends.
A star path ranger is with the group she is guiding. The wolves have been angered and are on their trail. She makes a camp

Make sure to stick to the travel portals, and away from the rebalancing portals.

Sebastian is lost in the sluices in an accident. His boat trapped against a massive spar is ripped in two.

Morvanwin is a star path wise woman in the paths of Tarazet, a kind of ranger or guide.

Sebastian's parents hire her to give them the grand tour. She tells them they are very unlikely to see Sebastian again.

Sebastian is taken through space and time arriving in a labyrinth city populated by the ghosts of a previous civilisation of human like shadows, He feels unwell immediately and starts to fade. He takes the fancy of one of the shadows who finds a way to keep him alive in the lab.

Climax in great hall of the lost civilisation.

This is a science fiction monster

This image was produced very laboriously with photoshop before I worked
out how the pen tool works. I think it has a certain quality that I like with the limited pallet and
differentiated areas of colour. This post is acting odly so I'm going to stop
now
